Casa della Volpe (Fox House) is in the high hills above Lucca, and has both intimate and distant views over the valley. Sweeping views can also be seen from the bed in the main bedroom.
It has beamed ceilings, an original Tuscan stone kitchen sink and sitting room fireplace, terracotta floors downstairs; ceramic tiles upstairs. It has an original bread/pizza oven and a pergola for outdoor dining. The house was restored in 2005/2006. It is furnished, in part, with antiques.
The house is charming, well equipped for convenient living. Fresh herbs in season. It has an adventurous road. While it is a semi-detached property, the adjacent building is not occupied. One of the bedrooms is under the eaves. Heated towel rails. Hair dryers. Satellite TV.
Setting
La Casa della Volpe is in the hills above Lucca in a quiet, rural area looking over to the church and tower of Torre Alto and down to the walled city of Lucca which is about 10 kms away. Very private, the house is not overlooked by other houses.
Natural surroundings and local activities
The countryside is made up of olive trees, vineyards and woods of chestnut, oak, acacia and arbetrello trees. It is possible to harvest chestnuts in the autumn and find wild mushrooms after the rains, if any, in summer. Violets grow under the olive trees in spring, wild carnations and other wildflowers grow along the roadsides in the summer. The air is fresh.
Beaches are half an hour to 45 minutes away, depending on the beach location and traffic. Historic World War II villages are a half-day visit; the Leaning Tower of Pisa is 35 kms away. Florence is an hour away by car or by rail. Trains run hourly. Horseback riding available by the hour, day or mountain trek.
